1988 -

Florence Delores Griffith Joyner from California is not only considered the fastest women in the world, she was also the most flamboyant athletic of all time. Today in 1988, Florence Griffith, or Flo-Jo as most people called her, set a historical world record for 200 meters. In the semi-final of the Seoul Olympics Flo-Jo set the record at 21 minutes and 56 seconds. Only to break that same record at the same day by herself to 21.34.

Greatness
Florence was an athlete from a young age. She was competing in high school and set school records before she joined the university athletic teams. Her performances on the 1988 Olympics show the greatness of Flo-Jo. As written, she set the record twice on one day for 200 meters, but a couple of day's earlier she did the same for 100 meters; she set a world record in the semi-final and broke it again in the final. At the time this article is written (2017), both records haven’t been broken. After 1988 Olympics Florence suddenly retired. She died ten years later in her sleep as the result of an epileptic seizure.

360 trivial fact
Florence was probably the most charismatic champignons in the field. She was for instance known for her colourful finger nails. Flo-Jo was already interested in fashion when she was still in high school. She persuaded her fellow athletics of the track and field team to wear tights with their uniform.
